To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

therogueselkie:

Final rabies vaccine this morning and then I will be protected from schtuff.

I got a really cool netbook for me to use in the truck when I’m out on calls. Color me excited!

This morning, I just can’t seem to get motivated… so I am in my office doing the asshole shuffle and thinking far too much…

Stuck to your guns on “asshole shuffle”, I see…

Guattari, at La Borde, had tried to enable subjugated groups to become subject groups, and he and Deleuze had come to believe it was patronising, authoritarian, even fascist, to speak on anyone else’s behalf, which is what intellectuals in France had always done. As Foucault noted in his introduction to the American edition of Anti-Oedipus, their true adversary was not so much capitalism as ‘the fascism in us all, in our heads and in our everyday behaviour, the fascism that causes us to love power, to desire the very thing that dominates and exploits us’.

Free love? As if love is anything but free!

-Emma Goldman “Marriage and Love.”

Perhaps the tone is a little negative, but a good read for V-Day.. I’m not against celebrating love.. I’m not a total cynic.. But I would like to say, especially on a day that seems to celebrate more the competition, the ownership, and the merchandising areas of love (the very non-love areas of love), that I celebrate love in the freest of all possible forms.  I would go so far as to say love is an extremely strained and potentially feigned emotion without freedom.  So, this post is for all the lovers in the world (and perhaps one in particular ;) ) who choose a love less restrained.

Post

I want to do another compilation soon..

Last time I did a local one of pretty much anyone I knew or came across.. This time I’d like it to be with a little more direction.. Although, not much.  I will call this one “Bad Teeth” and the cover with be a collage of pictures of different peoples’ (including mine) bad teeth.  The music is difficult.. I really hate listening to compilations of all the same sub-sub-sub-genre.. So I don’t so much want to restrict it that way.. But I do want stuff a little off the beaten path.. People doing something different within their genres.  I love weirdness in music.  This is not saying 20 minute-long ambient bore-scapes, however.  Listenable and different do not have to opposites.

I’ll probably make a jazzier post saying exactly what I want and what people will get if they participate, but for now, if any followers would like to spread the word, I’d gladly accept any musical or bad teeth-oriented submissions!

Before It Burns

Everything you built will fucking break
And everyone you love will surely pass away
And everything that’s beautiful will be swallowed by the sun
Someday

But the point is that you built it
And the point is that you loved them
And with every birth and death and breath I hope we learn
That the point of beauty isn’t always photographic
It’s realizing what you’ve got before it burns

It’s autumn and we’re floating like the leaves
Spiraling so beautiful, in so many colors
Different paths we’re taking down, Still headed to the ground
Anyway

These hands have long labored in the weeds
But been too slow to grasp the splendor of spring in blossom
The work’s so temporary, the play’s so temporary
We’re all flowers and we’re going up in flames

Try as you might, you cannot move the Earth
I’m just trying to keep myself satisfied playing in the dirt

Make me internet famous with my questionable music.
